Not maliciously. It's just that most loan officers see two or three VA loans a year, so when something unusual comes up — a low credit score, a second use of the benefit, a seller's agent who doesn't understand VA appraisals — they guess. And a guess costs you the house.
I'm Jason Wood, better known as the VA Loan Guy. I've got over two decades of mortgage lending experience and I've helped more than 2,000 families finance a home. The VA loan isn't a sideline for me. It's the only thing I do.
I served, then I spent twenty years learning the benefit I earned.
I was in the Air Force from 1999 to 2005. When I got out and started in lending, I watched veterans get talked out of the best loan product in the country by people who didn't understand it — told they needed 20% down, told their credit was too low, told the seller would never accept a VA offer. None of that is true, and all of it was costing people homes.
So I specialized. Two decades later I'm ranked by Scotsman Guide as a VA loan expert, I was named a Top Military Loan Originator by Mortgage Originators Magazine in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and I'm a certified instructor with Military Mortgage Bootcamp, where I teach the VA loan benefit to other lenders and to real estate agents. I founded the Armed & Ready Foundation, I host the Armed & Ready Podcast, and I've been a guest on CNBC's Financing the American Dream.
What working with me actually looks like.
You get me. Not a call center, not a junior processor who inherits your file after the first conversation. I'll tell you what you qualify for, and I'll tell you straight if the answer is “not yet” — along with exactly what has to change and how long it usually takes.
When you find a house, I'll call the seller's agent myself. A lot of VA offers get passed over because the agent on the other side has heard something bad about VA loans and nobody bothered to correct them. I correct them. That one phone call has won more than a few of my clients their house.
Licensed through two mortgage companies.
I originate loans through Aspire Mortgage Advisors and Patriot Pacific Financial Corp. Which one handles your loan depends on the state your property is in. If you're somewhere I'm not personally licensed, book a call anyway — my team can almost always still help, and I'll tell you honestly if we can't.
